London for Business Travellers: Staying Well, Working Well
A hotel room is not always the best base for a working week. Here is how to choose an apartment that supports the way you actually work.
Choose the neighbourhood by your calendar
Most business travel in London clusters around the City, Canary Wharf, Victoria and Mayfair. Staying within a fifteen-minute walk of your first meeting removes a daily source of friction that no hotel amenity makes up for.
Check the workspace before you book
A desk is not a table. Look for a proper chair, decent lighting and a door that closes. If you take calls in the evening, ask whether the bedroom is away from the street.
Connectivity is part of the room rate
Fast, reliable Wi-Fi should be assumed, but confirm it. Ask about mobile signal too — a few lower-ground-floor apartments are lovely and completely useless for a conference call.
Make the week easier
- Arrange a grocery delivery for the first evening.
- Ask for a later check-out if your flight is in the evening.
- Find the nearest gym before you arrive, not after.
